Purchases for Tuesday, January 11, 2011: Crash Team Racing (PS Classic), Lead and Gold (PSN), Pipe Madness (PSN Mini) and Fieldrunner (PSN Mini)

On Tuesday, I decided to finally get a Playstation Plus Membership, and with it I was able to get the above games for free. I figured that it was worth the $50 for a year, considering how many games get special pricing with the membership and how many games I tend to buy.

Crash Team Racing was a game I never got a chance to play much of back in the day, but it was a decent game. Not quite as good as Mario Kart, but this was a free download for me.

Lead and Gold was free as well. I still haven’t played it, but I will eventually.

Pipe Madness is essentially the hacking puzzles from BioShock in a very cheap package. It was free. Mind you, as a PSN Mini, it would have only been $2 or so anyway.

Fieldrunner was free and that is the only reason I downloaded it. I have heard nothing about it and have not tried it yet.

On top of those games, I also downloaded the January episode of Qore and watched it. Might started watching it on a regular basis.

I’ll be picking up the PS Move tomorrow with Time Crisis, and making more pre-orders. Kill Zone 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 being the final pre-orders for me for a while. There are too many games coming out. DAMN IT!

Update: Lead and Gold is a wild west online shooter. I played a little capture the flag and it was okay. If you have Red Dead Redemption, you don’t really need this game.

Fieldrunner is a tower defence game, and it’s very basic. I played it for a bit, and it’s actually quite enjoyable.

  1. I also decided to take the plunge and go for a full year of PSN Plus. I love Crash Team Racing (played it a lot on the PS1), and the Sam & Max games seem to be enjoyable, but I am disappointed with the rest of the offerings so far. Lead & Gold’s online community is all but dead, and the game is nothing special to begin with. Some of the minis are fun, but they are dirt cheap anyway. Hopefully Sony releases some more full-length games for free.

  2. I want a good RPG or two for download. Mind you, you can download Mass Effect 2, but something other than that is what I mean (and I have the collector’s edition pre-ordered).

With the Plus membership you’ll get access to exclusive betas as well, don’t forget.
