Purchase For Sunday, June 27, 2010: Red Dead Redemption (PS3)

On Sunday I applied for a job at GameStop. After which I decided to pre-order StarCraft 2 and pick up a copy of Red Dead Redemption.

I haven’t played enough of Red Dead Redemption to uncover much of the storyline, but I can tell you that the environments are huge and the gun battles are a lot of fun. You can loot bodies for money and other items. Riding around on horses is fun, until you accidentally run off a cliff. Horses don’t explode like cars, obviously. They just seem to crumple up and die from the fall. I did it by accident in one of the first missions (during the race with the woman that saves you). Don’t worry, not spoiling anything. It’s basically the tutorial of the game at that point. You can be good or evil. I am playing through as a goody good for the first time through. Then, on my second time through, I’ll be ready to kill everyone. BUHAHAHHA!

This game will likely keep my attention for a while. It’s kind of making me want to watch some old wild west movies. I may have to buy some.

Added: I also picked up Zombie Revenge for the DreamCast last weekend too. It’s pretty bad, but at the same time, it’s fun.

Multiple Purchases (Left 4 Dead 2, Metro 2033, Split/Second)

Recently I purchased a few games. Left 4 Dead 2 (PC over Steam), Metro 2033 (PC) and Split/Second (PS3).

I have had a chance to play all three of these games for about an hour or more each. All of them are pretty sweet games, I must say.

Left 4 Dead 2 is pretty much Left 4 Dead with more monsters, new characters (three men and one woman again), and there are also new weapons, such as the katana and chain saw. It’s quite a bit of fun. I’ve been playing it a bit with a friend and it’s definitely worth having. Unfortunately I purchased it a day too early. There was recently a Steam sale, and I ended up paying an extra $20 for it. Lame.

Metro 2033 is based on a book (which I happen to be reading). The game is a bit different from the book, but it would have to be. So far, they have done a great job with the world of Metro 2033. It can be a bit nerve racking, since monsters can seemingly come from anywhere, and sometimes you just can’t see anything, or you have messed up visions, or run out of ammo. I am playing through it on hard difficulty, so running out of resources is kind of the tough part.

Split/Second is a racing game with lots of explosions and booby traps. I love this game. I’m a huge fan of games like Burnout that have an emphasis on destruction. It’s not quite as fast as I had hoped, but it’s a good game to get me reintroduced into racing games. I might even go back and play some Burnout Paradise, since I really only played it a hand full of times when I bought it. In Split/Second you race other racers, and you build up a power bar. It has two blue sections and a red section. The first two can trigger level 1 and level 2 traps. The red can alter the track with a huge explosion/plane crash/building collapse. There are also instant replays for some fun reviews of cars getting owned. Definitely fun with more than one player.

Quite A Bit Has Happened.

Alright, so I am now living in my own place. I have high speed internet. I am ready. Just need a bit more time to commit to gaming again.

I purchased and completed Heavy Rain sometime in late April or early May. I forget. It was good. More on that another time.

Hopefully there’ll be regular posting again at some point soon. Don’t worry, I am still around. Just not enough time to post.
