An update on the games I’m playing

Posted in General on March 31, 2009 by Laynix

I’ve finished Resident Evil 5 twice now, once on Veteran and once on Professional. Both times I was playing with Brock, and both times Brock was using the rocket launcher with unlimited ammo. This made it fairly easy. I now have this weapon and it makes quick work of bosses, usually killing them in one or two shots. I’ll be clearing up the rest of the trophies within a week or so.

I’ve also been playing Uncharted again. I’m on chapter 13 playing through on Crushing, and there are spots that are just tough as hell. I have some treasures to find in chapter 18, and the rest of the game to beat, and then I’ll have my platinum, likely making this one the second after LittleBigPlanet.

I finished Dirt on Rookie and started playing through it again on Clubman to unlock more cars and skins. This is a really good game and I’ll definitely pick up Dirt 2 when it’s out.

I’ve also started playing Final Fantasy XII again. I haven’t played this game in close to a year, and I’ve found out I’ve been playing it for 31 hours. I don’t remember what I was doing at the time, but I’ve killed a few enemies for the bestiary. I should be back on track tonight.

There’s a new web site for PSN trophies: This site links with your trophies from your PS3, and allows you to use a card as a signature for forums. It looks like this: korgrim It also shows a top 100 leaderboard, (out of currently 3621 players) and the top 10 countries (Canada is 3rd behind United States and United Kingdom). It launched maybe two weeks ago.

E-Bay Review For March 2009

Posted in Auctions and Stores - Monthly Review on March 31, 2009 by Matt

Alright, so it’s the end of the month and it’s time to review some of my E-Bay purchases. I shall be naming the E-Bay seller, the item purchased, and I will be giving a small comment on each one. Some of these games were purchased in February, but did not come in until March. Here we go.

rodneykb2: I purchased Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee for Playstation from this seller. This was a purchase I made in haste and should have been more careful with. The description wasn’t good, and there was no picture of the actual product (just a stock photo). The game came and the disc was fine, the manual was fine, but the front of the jewel case was broken and would come off and there were cracks in the case otherwise. I had an extra jewel case handy, so I replaced it. I didn’t leave feedback because I couldn’t really leave a negative since I was stupid enough to buy something without a good description or picture. If you buy from this seller, be sure to check the description and photo. This also took over a month to get to me. I wouldn’t really recommend buying from this seller.

el_tirador_emboscado: I purchased Nightmare Creatures for Playstation from this seller. It came as described and works well. No problems.

eva_super_nintendo: I purchased Super Pinball for the Super NES from this seller. It came as described and works well. No problems.

49ergod: I purchased Blazing Lazers for the Turbo Grafx 16 from this seller. The item came as described and works well. The only problem I had was that the game sleeve and the game card itself were a bit sticky. I messaged the seller, and it was just from condensation in his warehouse in California. I guess that is a good enough excuse. The stickiness was gone after a quick washing with soap and water. No problems other than that.

gamesnthangs: I purchased Operation C for the Gameboy from this seller. The game came as described and works well. No issues.

kingpatten: I purchased Doom for the Atari Jaguar from this seller. The game came in better shape than I had hoped and works perfectly. No problems.

zach_paige: I purchased Parasite Eve for Playstation from this seller. The game’s jewel case was cracked all over and disc one didn’t work at all. The cracks on the case were small enough that they eluded the photo that was taken and posted for the description. The seller described disc one as having a few small scratches that did not interfere with the game. The disc had been resurfaced and there was a small ring on the inside portion of the read area of the disc. This is a sign that it was resurfaced too much and it negates the game from loading. The Playstation didn’t even recognize the disc as a Playstation disc. I am awaiting my refund from this seller. This will be updated as soon as I get it.

mightyslacker: I purchased Battletoads for the Gameboy from this seller. It came as described and works. It was the cheapest copy I could find, so I’m happy.

godofgods: I purchased Raiden III for the Playstation 2 from this seller. It came as described and works. Decent price for a brand new copy of the game.

kpac2017: I purchased Tetris for the Gameboy from this seller. It came as described and works. I purchased this for a lady at work.

final_fantasy: I purchased 10 Gameboy plastic game cases from this seller. They came as described.

logansgate: I purchased China Warrior for the Turbo Grafx 16 from this person. It came as described and works well. This seller is from close by and is new (only 27 positive feedbacks as of this review, 100%).

xero-divide: I purchased Silent Bomber for the Playstation from this seller. It was described as Mint and Flawless, but it isn’t. The disc is good, the case is good, but the manual is all water damaged and ripped. It’s not apparent until you open the actual manual to see all the ripped, damaged pages. I was very disappointed with this. I messaged the user with a request for a partial refund, and he accepted.

That is it for March 2009. These are games I received that hadn’t yet come in from last month, as well as purchases made during March that have came in.

Mail For March 31, 2009

Today I received Silent Bomber for the Playsation in the Mail. In this game, you play as a soldier with the ability to set or throw bombs. There are different power ups to make bombs stronger, or have different effects. I used to play this game quite a bit back when the Playstation was a current gen system. I had rented it, but never owned it.

I was pretty happy with it, and then I opened the case and inspected the manual.

As you can see from the outside of the case, it looks fine.

Even when you open it, it appears like nothing is wrong.

Then you take out and open the manual. Here is the problem. This is totally unacceptable.

I messaged the seller about this problem. I told them that I wanted a partial refund for the game, or I would be leaving negative feedback. I don’t want to send it back, because I am going to be losing money and being empty handed if I do that. I’d rather have a little bit back and keep the game. I should be able to find and purchase a manual on E-Bay at some point. The seller got back to me and is giving me a partial refund.

New games as of March 30th

Posted in In The Mail/Purchased Items, New Releases on March 30, 2009 by Laynix

The games I bought last week are:

Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection: This is a collection of over 40 Sega Genesis games that came out in February for the PS3. It is an easy platinum, so I’ll likely get that soon. I’ve played about 10 of the games so far to get the trophies, and the games I played aren’t really as good as I expected. The play control is a bit unresponsive in some. I’ll make a post when I’ve got the platinum.

Persona 3 FES: This is technically an expansion for Persona 3 released by Atlus only last year for the PS2. I got this with Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection from Amazon. I haven’t played any of the Persona games, but I did play a bit of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for the PS2, and liked it. FES has an 89 on Metacritic and Persona 3 has an 86, so they’re definitely good. FES can be played without already having played Persona 3, and I tried it out for a bit. It seems pretty good, the graphics are very nice. I’m going to get Persona 3 and play through that first I think.

I bought Bit.Trip Beat, which is a WiiWare game, and it’s pretty fun. You hold the controller sideways, like when you’re playing Excite Truck, and you hit bits that fly across the screen by tilting the controller up and down, and it makes an 8 bit style song. It’s fun and gets very challenging as the level progresses. This is actually one of the highest rated games released for the Wii in months.

Lastly, I bought Burn Zombie Burn! from the PSN. This game is VERY good, and one of my favorite PSN games. The levels are small, and is played in a top down view. The point is to get as many points as possible, and to do that you need to build up a high multiplier by lighting up to 99 zombies on fire. Eventually the fires go out and leave a burnt husk of a zombie still walking around to get you. You need to kill the zombies before this happens or risk losing potential points. There are tons of different zombies and tons of different weapons. It’s a hell of a lot of fun.

Mail For March 30, 2009

A while back, Laynix picked up Raiden III for the Playstation 2. I played it and decided that it was definitely a great shoot ’em up and that I needed to have it. So, here it is. I bought it brand new off of E-Bay since I never see it in any stores.

That is really all I have for now. I just woke up about half an hour ago.

I got frustrated with Resident Evil 5 last night. Chris, as an AI partner, sucks. He is stupid and gets in the way all the time (especially when he is carrying the Gatling Gun with that huge ammo pack). He doesn’t always shoot when there’s an enemy right in front of him and he constantly dies. This is even when I tell him to attack. Very frustrating.

Purchases And Gaming Session For March 29, 2009

Posted in Gaming Sessions, In The Mail/Purchased Items, New Releases on March 29, 2009 by Matt

Today, I met with a guy in Waterloo to buy his used PSP. It came with a carrying case, the sampler UMD, Spider-Man 2 on UMD, the AC Adapter (which can plug into the wall or your car and has the battery charger on it), a 1 GB flash card, and two games (Lumines and Me & My Katamari). It is the first gen model of the PSP. It’s got a moderately scratched screen and the UMD door doesn’t quite close all the way on one side. I really don’t care too much because I paid a fairly cheap price for what I got. I am happy with the purchase. I cleaned up the games and the PSP as best I can, and everything works fine.

After I picked that up, I picked up my girlfriend and went and had a visit with my friend, Eric. We decided to go to the mall and I decided I wanted at least one other game for my PSP. I went in to EB Games and…well…all of the games that I wanted for the PSP sat in front of me. I caved and purchased five games. The games were: Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core, Resistance: Retribution, Patapon, and Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?. The first three that I mentioned were used, and I got good use of my EB Games Edge card, saving me 10% on my used game purchases.

So far, I have tried out all of the games except for the Final Fantasy games. There will be more on these games as I play them. They are good from what I have played so far. I’ve had company today, so not a lot of time to dedicate to the purchases from earlier.

My friend Steph came over and we played a few games.

We started off with some Resident Evil 5 co-op in The Mercenaries mini-game. It was pretty sweet. I think there are more enemies with two people. She spent a lot of time getting used to the game. She has never played before. We played this for a few rounds and decided to move to another game.

Next up, I let her try out Flower, since it is such an unusual game. She enjoyed it. Not really much else to add here. I am sure she’ll view this post and add in her own opinion anyway.

Then we tried out Mad World multi-player. It was relatively fun. You get to play the bonus rounds that you come across in the single player (Like the Man Darts, and the big jet engine/turbine). We fooled around with that for a few minutes and I let her try out the single player. She has a thing for cutting people into little chunks with the chainsaw. I found this interesting, and strangely cool. She appreciated the comic style art of the game, and the blood. *thumbs up*

Lastly, we played a round of House of the Dead: Overkill before she departed. She said she enjoyed it, but I don’t think she likes rail shooters. She likes moving on her own. *shrugs*

Anyway, that was my day today. Tonight, I plan to finish Resident Evil 5 on Veteran and maybe play some of it with my girlfriend in Co-op. I have unlocked the Gatling Gun now, and maxed out one machine gun and one shot gun. I plan to buy the Hydra tonight after I finish veteran.

Update: I tried out Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Tactics and they are both good. Crisis Core plays like an action RPG, but also turn based in a way. It’s different. I enjoy it. Tactics is essentially just like the Playstation version of the same name, as I had figured it would be.

The games I’ve been playing

Posted in General on March 27, 2009 by Laynix

I’ve been playing quite a bit of EVE this week, but there’s not much to say. I’ve just been working on missions and getting ISK.

Next, I’ve been playing a lot of Resident Evil 5 co-op with Brock. We’re planning on finishing it on professional tomorrow. Tonight we’re working on getting our guns maxed out. We’re trying to platinum it quickly.

I’ve been playing some Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, just to get trophies so far. I’ve also played a bit more MadWorld. I picked up Burn Zombie Burn! on the PSN, and I have to say, it is pretty well the best PSN game. It’s definitely worth playing. You run around a small level, light zombies on fire, then kill them with various weapons. I wish there was more time to play games…

One thing worth mentioning that Nintendo FINALLY added to the Wii is the ability to use an SD card to play WiiWare and Virtual Console games from.
